Fitness First

Case Study: Leisure

Leisure group saves its energy

Fitness First is the largest health and fitness club group in the world, with more than 1.4 million members and 540 clubs. Westway manages 49 of the group’s 80 UK clubs.

Its large property portfolio means that Fitness First has a wide variety of buildings with different types and ages of equipment. Air conditioning and heating equipment is critical in leisure club environments, and our team of experienced engineers maximises operational performance.

Fitness First’s UK clubs are equipped with a variety of different air conditioning systems. These vary from single split air conditioning units and multi split VRV or VRF systems, to central chilling plant. We are working with Fitness First to upgrade these systems. This involves the removal of existing equipment and installation of the latest energy efficient technology.

“Westway’s assurance of consistent, high quality works within our clubs and a safe, healthy working environment for our staff and members, is continually met.”
Glyn Allen, Head of Contracts, Fitness First

Fitness First’s clubs also feature spacious showering facilities, and during peak use periods, these demand a significant amount of energy. To ensure customers get hot water every time, we have installed gas or electric quick recovery units, with the capacity to store large volumes of hot water.

Westway’s mobile engineer team ensures that each club’s air conditioning and hot water services run at their optimum. We respond quickly to any reported equipment failures, minimising down time and any impact on Fitness First customers.

Westway’s innovative approach has significantly reduced energy consumption at Fitness First’s clubs. This, together with the pro-active style of our managers and engineers, has created a strong and trusted partnership between Westway and Fitness First, that has already endured for over 5 years.
